After the intensification of the siege on Gaza, Rowad calls to seek an end to the suffering of the civilian populations in Gaza.
High percentage of poverty
The Zionist authorities implement this programmed policy against a society dominated by poverty, the unemployment rate after the siege is more than 50%, the majority of people relies on the international aids provided by international humanitarian organizations. It was reported that Israeli occupation preventing entry of building materials has counteracted some projects whose cost was 200 million dollars. These projects included Health projects, environmental and educational projects, this has led to serious repercussions and raised the unemployment rate to 50% ", after being about 30% during the previous months.
Moreover, heads of household face hardships providing food, water and medicine to their family members and their living conditions get worse. Thus, the proportion of children with anemia and malnutrition has been raised to disastrous rates that affect their growth and survival.
Deprivation of decent life
In this borderline, the most basic necessities of a decent human life are nonexistent including food and medical supplies needed for people to survive, as well as the needs of fuel, and raw materials for various economic sectors, industrial, agricultural, construction, and transportation.
Most reports draw the attention that this period witnessed a sharp reduction of the electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip, which resulted in disasters in civilian life. The occupation authorities continues its decision to reduce supplying the Gaza Strip with fuel creating disastrous situations and many repercussions that obstructed the facilities of life. Consequently, this bitter reality led to a severe deterioration in the work of all crucial facilities, including health facilities such as hospitals and health care centers, and threatened the lives of hundreds of patients who were lying there.
Closure of the crossings
Reports indicate that during this period the closure of the Gaza Strip has continued and the overall ban from moving across Rafah and Erez crossings has continued as well due to shutting them down since the siege has started on 10th, June, 2007 till today.
As a result, the Gaza Strip civilians were deprives from their freedom of movement and they also were prevented not to move from the cities of the strip out to theWest Bank. Closure of the commercial crossings kept going on and four main borders were closed, Karni crossing in east Gaza which is one of the most important for cargo, Sofa crossing in east Rafah, Nahal Oz crossing in east Gaza, and Kissufim crossing in east Khan Younis. The Palestinian Popular Committee to break the siege onGaza, confirmed earlier thatIsraelallow the supply of only 20 to 25 per cent of the needs of the strip.
Another study reported that the continuous closure of commercial crossings caused heavy damage hit Palestinian agricultural products, which is famous for their high quality, and its commitment to the conditions of health, and international standards agricultural production.
The siege and closure led to the loss of thousands of jobs in the Gaza Strip, and the restrictions imposed on the movement of fishing, and the deterioration of the marine life as a result of the dumping of sewage into the sea are the main factors that affect the fishing sector. Also, the risk which is imposed on the movement of exports and the lack of basic inputs led to paralyzing of large parts of the agriculture sector.
Health situation
The occupation forces has obstructed passing through the crossings for dozens of patients and deprived hundreds who are in urgent need of treatment in hospitals abroad. Therefore, a limited number of patients were allowed to pass through Erez crossing in order to get treatment in some hospitals out of the Gaza Strip. The number of patients who were frequently going to the Egyptian hospitals was one thousand a month, but this percentage has faded because of the closure and that make patients subjected to death risk as the proportion of the drugs coming fromEgypt, which is estimated at 30% "no longer reach, due to the closure Rafah crossing.
One of the reports indicated that the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip had an impact on the performance of the Ministry of Health, due to lack of fuel and medicine. Furthermore, It is noteworthy that patients who apply for treatment in those hospitals suffer from very serious diseases, and in imperative need to be treated for diseases that they do not have their medication in the hospitals of the Strip, and they are not able to reach Egyptian hospitals due to the continued closure of the Rafah crossing.
Environmental situation
Sewage that floated from Asqula station sewage in Gaza City, on Wednesday evening 11/13/2013, flooded the surrounding streets as a result of the stoppage of work to fully run out of fuel needed to run their generators.
The director of water and sanitation in the municipality, Saad Eddin Alatbash, said, "The station will cause the flow of thousand cubic liters in the streets within one hour, threatening the lives of more than 20 thousand people drowning."
Alatbash noted that if the crisis continued in the streets within hours, the streets will sink to the lack of places for discharged, and pointed out that the municipality has warned of access to this stage due to lack of fuel to run the generators for the plants discharge process.
Call to lift the siege
At the same time, the head of Rowad, Rabah Bakhit, assured the need to stand in front of the suffering of the besieged people who suffer the ravages of the blockade, because the Prophet peace be upon him "The believers in their mutual love, mercy and compassion are like one body and if one member complained, the rest of the body would ensure a fever and stay up for his sake." asserting that the escalation of Israeli siege requires international activeness, warning of a humanitarian disaster following the tragic situation experienced by the people of the Gaza Strip.
He also appealed to Arab and international institutions and charities to support poor families in the Gaza Strip in light of the unjust siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.
Besides, he gave many thanks to charities supporting and contributing to support projects that alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
